What is deniz gezmiş?

Deniz Gezmiş was a Turkish political activist who was a prominent figure in the left-wing movement in Turkey during the 1960s and 1970s. Born on February 27, 1947, he was a member of the People's Liberation Army of Turkey (THKO) and was involved in various protests and demonstrations against the conservative government of the time.

Gezmiş and two of his comrades, Hüseyin İnan and Yusuf Aslan, were arrested in 1971 for their involvement in the abduction of NATO commander General Hüseyin Kocadağ. They were sentenced to death and executed by hanging on May 6, 1972.
